Informed by her residency with the Artic Circle. Abi secured full funding for the trip and in July 2026, setting sail from Longyearbyen in Svalbard, north Norway, with a group of 28 artists, writers, musicians and scientists. A challenging and beautiful that impacted her deeply.
ORIGINS OF HOME
Abi Spendlove paid homage to the towns heritage from technique to a variety of outputs. By inviting Luton residents to draw on her sculptural rock using chalk, geological stained glass windows, map of the river lee and series of material exploration.
She also combined the materials Orchard tree sap and Chalk found in Luton for her handmade pigment, which she placed on a ice block that melted into water, representative of the River Lee one of the iconic biodiversity of Luton’s nature and history.
