Sign-Up Guide

This is a how-to guide for signing up to the Hat District directory. Follow the simple steps below to create an account, add your organisation or creative practice and make your listing visible to the local arts community. The process takes only a few minutes and you can edit your entry anytime.


Before you start

There are two separate application processes you may be asked to complete:

  1. Hat Works Membership Application (required to join the Directory)

  2. Luton Creative Directory listing

Some information overlaps, but the forms are used for different purposes. Please read the sections below and prepare the relevant information in advance.


1. Hat Works Membership Application

This application is used to assess your suitability for Hat Works membership. The information provided is for internal review and membership management.

Please have the following ready:

Personal and contact details

  • Your full name

  • Email address and telephone number

  • Postal address

  • Business name and company registration number (if applicable)

About your business and practice

  • A description of your creative industry business and area of work

  • How long you have been in practice

  • How and when you expect to use Hat Works (your anticipated working pattern)

  • Your business goals for the next two years

  • Why you would like to become a Hat Works Member

  • How your work and values align with Hat Works’ ethos as a progressive, diverse and charitable organisation

Online presence

  • Links to your website and/or social media (full URLs)

Examples of your work

  • 2–4 examples of your work, such as website links, case studies, sketches, photos, business plans or similar

  • If sharing files, we recommend using a Google Drive or Dropbox link and ensuring access permissions are set correctly

Accessibility

  • Details of any access requirements you would like us to be aware of

You will also be asked to confirm your email address and agree to the Culture Trust’s privacy terms and communications preferences.


Creative Directory ran by the Culture Trust for Luton Creatives. It's an online platform with roots in the Hat District (Hat Factory and Hat Works)

2. Luton Creative Directory

If you choose to list your business on the Luton Creative Directory, you will complete an additional section.

This includes:

  • Private information used only to process and manage your profile (not visible on the Directory)

  • Public profile information that will be displayed on the Directory if you consent

Information for your public Directory profile

  • Business name

  • Creative industry category

  • Website and/or social media links

  • A short public description of your practice (maximum 200 characters)

  • Contact email address

Profile image

  • One image or photo to appear on your Directory profile

    • JPG or PNG format

    • Square (1:1 ratio)

    • Maximum file size: 4MB

    • You must hold the copyright to the image

You will be asked to confirm your consent for this information to be shared publicly in line with the Terms and Conditions.
