During renovating work at the soon to be opened Hat Works,we discovered a Well. The Well has had to be covered, however, we are committed to featuring the important history of the building and are marking the point of the Well with a cover fabricated in metal plate.

The Well cover will feature a design by one of our very own local Creative Pioneer Members… We need your help to decide on which one should be used to cover the Well. See the submissions above and vote for your favourite below.

Voting opens midnight 25th February 2021 and closes 1st March 2021 midnight. The preferred design will be announced 2nd March 2021 at 1pm.

*preferred design will be subject to commissioning body’s adjustments due to fabrication

A little about each design...

Design A: The inspiration for the design came from the patterns in the Hat District’s logos derived from the straw plait patterns often found in hats manufactured in Luton. The street and building layout has been extracted from archive and current maps. The riverbed is shown here in its entirety, highlighting Luton’s ambitious plan to excavate it in the coming years.

Design B: The inspiration for the design leads to the representation of the Hat District’s eco-system, with a selection of the various elements of creativity that do/will feed into the system. The design also incorporates features of the Hat District branding and rudiments of the creative sectors representing the individual “shapes” (shapes = creatives, so not so rigid) that put together, form the brand/whole picture – creating The Hat District and the eco-system that it brings.
